In Haukadalur, only one and a half hours drive from Reykjavik, lies a vast geothermal area that takes its name from one of the greatest hot spring of all times; the Great Geysir. Here you come across many kinds of different hot springs; spouting geysers and bubbling mud pots of all size and forms. All thought the Great Geysir has not been active for some time now, its successor Strokkur, is the pride of the area erupting every 5-8 minutes. The water spout reaching up to 30 meters in the air is a magnificent sight not to be missed while in Iceland. The Geysir geothermal field gives visitors the unique opportunity to experience the raw beauty of Iceland's geothermal landscape at first hand.
